His journey began with the Under-17 team, known as the Golden Eagles, where he showcased his talent and helped secure a FIFA U-17 World Cup title in 2003. Following this success, he progressed to the Under-20 team, the Flying Eagles, where he continued to develop his skills on an international stage.

Mikel’s career further advanced as he joined the Under-23 Olympic team, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s gold medal victory at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His remarkable versatility and leadership qualities eventually earned him a spot on the senior national team, the Super Eagles. Over his extensive international career, Mikel has amassed over 100 caps for Nigeria and played in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups.

Beyond his national achievements, Mikel is also celebrated for his successful club career, particularly with Chelsea FC, where he won numerous titles including the UEFA Champions League. His legacy as a footballer continues to inspire many aspiring athletes in Nigeria and beyond.
